DESCRIPTION
Lead a department of Industrial Systems controls engineers and programmers to implement projects according to company best practices.  Department Manager duties include the support of corporate objectives with respect to quality control, people and standards development, project management, and sales and client management.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Assure the safety and welfare of the individuals within the department by making necessary arrangements for safety equipment, office equipment, safe transportation to and from job sites, and creating an awareness of plant safety requirements.
  • Develop and maintain action plans with other department and project managers for the efficient usage of personnel and effective methods of design.
  • Provide technical expertise within the department to meet the project and client requirements and support the training and technical direction necessary to develop department personnel to meet personal goals and client's requirements. Inherent to this requirement is keeping up to date on the latest developments in products and technologies.
  • Direct duties associated with employee relations consistent with established policies and procedures to include: salary administration, personnel policy awareness, corporate policy awareness, performance appraisals, and employee counseling.
  • Administer budgets maintaining sensitivity to the interaction of projected sales to actual sales and project budgets to actual available funds for realization of corporate profit objectives.
  • Assure technical accuracy and soundness of engineering practices based on design criteria, specifications, and standards as related to the project requirements.
  • Develop departmental goals and objectives consistent with corporate goals and marketing plan for identification of expertise required, manpower required, yearly budgets, yearly sales, goals, etc.
  • Manage projects as assigned in order to foster and maintain relationships with key clients, provide special handling of critical or at-risk projects, and to maintain familiarity with established project procedures.

 

 

Education and Prior Work Experience

 

  • Four-year in an engineering discipline or equivalent required - EE or CSE preferred.
  • Minimum six years of experience in industrial control systems – System Integrator Experience highly preferred.
  • 1-2 years direct people management experience required
  • Demonstrated success in a project-based environment

 

Other Requirements (licenses, programs, certificates)

 

  • Professional Engineering Registration a plus
  • ISA CAP, PMP, CCNA or other controls-based credentials a plus

 

Travel Requirements

 

  • North America travel or travel to alternate work sites may be required to support Matrix clients and projects. Some international travel may occasionally be included.

Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years experience in industrial power distribution.
• BSEE Degree preferred. Alternative qualifications include a minimum 10 years experience and Associates Degree or graduation from an acceptable technical program
• Minimum five (5) years AutoCAD experience with version 2007 or later, including 2 years experience with version 2010 or later. Experience in AutoCAD MEP package and Inventor design software a plus.
• Must have advanced knowledge of electrical design principles and be able to apply sophisticated methods to complex situations.
• Controls knowledge a plus.
• Experience in glass plant design and electric boost a plus.

Job Responsibilities:
• Design plant power distribution systems starting at the incoming power supply from the utility department and continuing through the unit substations located within the plant.
• Design Low voltage power distribution from in plant unit sub stations continuing through power distribution panels and motor control centers.
• Specify and write up all bills of materials and equipment specifications required for the above mentioned power distribution systems.
• Must be familiar with coordination, load, capacity, fault, studies, as well as, arc flash labeling. Current code knowledge is required.
• Develop single line diagrams, load and cable schedules and demolition drawings, and oversee these tasks as executed by others.
• Supervise the work of junior designers, designers, detailers or drafters and trains others.

Typical Duties:
• Assumes some responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs, while still under general supervision of an engineer.
• Determines how complex control systems should function, lays out initial design concept and determines drawing standards and does detailed comprehensive checking of designs/drawings.
• Uses computer aided design/engineering methods to accomplish above duties.

Reporting and Technical Assistance:
• Will report to Electrical Engineering Manager. Will work cooperatively with client or design authority as to results expected, but generally performs assignments independently with minimal supervision/contact.

Description

Design, develop and support equipment including improvements to existing equipment designs and developing new equipment designs.  Provide technical leadership to the area of responsibility within the electrical and controls engineering staff through the collaborative development of concepts and designs, review of electrical designs and engineering documentation, problem resolution, and troubleshooting of new and existing equipment. 

Ensure compliance with engineering procedures and guidelines, industry standards and practices, and governmental regulations applicable to electrical design of industrial equipment that is designed, developed, and manufactured.

Requirements:

 

Knowledge and Skills: B.S. Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Associates Degree in science or engineering with a minimum of 15 years electrical and controls experience and 5 years of management or supervisory experience. Knowledge of Rockwell development software used to program PLCs. Knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical software. In depth understanding of applicable North America electrical codes and industry standards used in equipment design including but not limited to UL, CSA, NFPA, NEC and IEC. Understanding of CE Machinery Directive and applicable standards is preferred. Ability to design electrical circuits and panels for industrial equipment and perform electrical design calculations including those applicable to safety circuit ratings.

 

Knowledge of multiple technologies, products and applications applicable to industrial equipment such as PLCs, VFDs, proximity switches, safety devices, and HMIs.

 

Must be able to work in close cooperation with all areas of the business with a can do attitude, a high degree of urgency, and the ability to get things done.  Good organization and project planning skills.  Proven leadership ability.  Able to challenge and motivate a technical team to achieve aggressive objectives.  Demonstrates proficiency in thinking creatively and project planning and execution.

 

 

Experience:  Minimum of 7 years electrical and controls design and development experience including a minimum of 3 years of experience using Rockwell software, designing electrical and controls for industrial equipment and using AutoCAD Electrical. Minimum of 3 years of experience leading or managing electrical and controls engineering teams in support of industrial equipment. Project management experience preferred.

Description

Our client is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join their Indianapolis based team. The role will play a key part in supporting and leading engineering projects, supporting plant activities and establishing and delivering engineering processes and standards. Project engineering duties will include developing and managing the scope, cost and timing estimates, equipment specification, design, construction packages, construction oversite, cost control, permits and start up leadership. The project engineer will report to the Director of Engineering.


Job Functions:

  • Provide technical support to plants and customers
  • Responsible for overall project management, including:
    • Creation and completion of projects with minimal internal resources available
    • Defining scope, justifications, capital request, cost and timing estimations
    • Collecting bids, awarding work and creating design and equipment specifications
    •  Managing construction, contractors, project start-ups and training of employees for multiple projects simultaneously at different plants in different states
  • Create and improve the processes and systems used by the engineering department to develop and manage projects, plants and the business
  • Serve as an engineering resource and support other Heritage Group company projects as requested

Description

General Description:
Mechanical Piping Designer will work under the guidance of the Project Manager or Mechanical Engineering Manager in the development of layouts, details, specifications and material lists associated with the design of piping systems for fuel oil, cooling water, compressed gases (including oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, natural gas, air), and control system piping. Individuals with experience in the design of heat treatment furnaces, incinerators, combustors, metal production furnaces and similar backgrounds will have relevant experience.

Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years experience with designing piping systems, including the preparation of layouts/design drawings, fabrication and erection details. Pipe sizing specified by engineer.
• Minimum 5 years AutoCAD experience with version 2007 or later; and a minimum of 2 years experience using version 2010 of later, Experience using MEP and Inventor design software a plus.
• Minimum 3 years experience checking designs, layouts, shop details, erection drawings and material list.
• Ability to travel (up to 10%)
• Glass melting furnace and glass batch plant experience a plus.

Job Requirements:
• Ability and experience to produce piping design drawings with sizes as specified by Project Manager or design authority.
• Has sufficient knowledge and familiararity with mechanical design principles to be able to address a wide range of situations.

• Must be able to perform independently on most assignments.
